College Application Essay Writing Seminar

Write a college application essay that highlights your unique talents and accomplishments – and that will grab the attention of college admissions committees!

In this six-session, twelve-hour, small group writing workshop, designed for rising high school seniors, you will learn what college admissions departments want in an application essay. You will read different types of essays: analytical, persuasive, personal, creative, etc. You will benefit from individual and group attention, brainstorm ideas for your essays, experiment with different writing styles, try out diverse processes for getting words on the page, comment on other participants’ work, share your writing with the group, and learn new ways to express the power of your personal voice. By the end of the workshop, each writer will complete at least one personal statement essay.

The text, 100 Successful College Application Essays, Second Ed., by the Harvard Independent, is included in the workshop fee.

Here’s what one parent had to say:

“When it came time for my son to write his college application essay, Kevin Dohmen first talked with him about how important it was for the essay to strike an emotional chord with the application committee. He stressed that the essay should reflect my son’s personality and interests; it should give the reader a good idea of the type of person my son is, and what he expected to gain from college. My son followed this direction and wrote from his heart. The final version of the essay was touching and smart. My son was accepted to all four of the college music programs he applied for, one with a full scholarship.”

– Terri Scullen, professional writer and mother of two
